Christine Jeffs was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand.
In 1983, she graduated from Massey University in Palmerston North, New
Zealand with a BA Degree in Sociology and Geography.
Christine began her career in the film industry as an assistant film editor.
In 1990 Christine attended the Australian Film Television and Radio School,
completing a diploma in Editing. She then worked as an editor cutting films
and commercials.
Back in New Zealand she wrote, edited and directed her first short film
Stroke (Cannes 1994, Sundance 1995).
In 1995 Christine was awarded an Axis Award for Commercial Direction, and
also won Best Commercial Director at the New Zealand Film Awards.
The subsequent years saw Christine win numerous awards for direction, the
highlights of which included a Cannes Lion.
In 2000, she shot her first feature film, Rain, which was officially
selected for the 2001 Cannes Film Festival Director's Fortnight.
Rain was subsequently selected for several international film festivals
including Edinburgh, Melbourne, Toronto and Sundance.
During the Sundance Film Festival in 2002, Christine was selected among
Variety's 10 Directors to Watch.
